My partner and I booked Rihard for both the forest bathing experience as well as the road trip from Riga to Tallinn. We travel a lot, and Rihard is the best tour guide we have ever had. He loves Latvia, and it really shows in how he speaks about his home country. He is full of interesting stories and facts that helped us feel more connected to what we were seeing. He is a very friendly guy, a great conversationalist, and easy to be around.

As for the tours:
Forest Bathing: What a magical experience to immerse ourselves in the Latvian forest. Rihard is very familiar with the forests and has a deep admiration for them. He is the perfect person to share a walk through the trees with. For the last two hours of the tour, he set us up with hammocks in the dreamiest location. We got to relax there on our own, and we truly felt like we were in heaven.

Road Trip: Usually, when we have travel days, we are so focused on getting from point A to point B that we don't enjoy the actual travel. This tour gives you a chance to take in some of the lesser-known areas of Latvia and Estonia, and actually enjoy the journey. The walk along the Gulf of Riga was a highlight for us. The forest grows parallel to the coast. We were the only ones hiking there for the majority of the walk, and wow, did it feel special. This might seem like a long day, but it flew by for us.

Overall: Rihard is the best. If you are going to Latvia, book him!

We had two fantastic days out with Rihards during our trip to Riga. Dog sleding which was wonderful, plenty of time with the dogs, a great experience on the sled and then a walk through the countryside in thick snow.

We then did a second trip to the castle, deer farm and wildlife park which was brilliant.

Rihards was a great guide, very informative, interesting and really looked after us (M53, F49, M19, F19, F13).

Would absolutely recommend Discover Latvia Tours.

We've been on two tours with Rihard on our week holiday to Latvia, both were amazing.

He is a brilliant guide, full of interesting information on the tours as well as places to eat and drink in Riga.

We did the husky sled trip, luckily in snow which was fantastic. Plenty of time with the dogs before and a great little hike afterwards.

Secondly we did the full day tour, castle, deer farm and a nature trail with a 5km walk through the national park.

Reasonable prices and prompt collecting from a friendly guide, A* would definitely recommend.

As I was traveling alone, he had planned and personalized the Baltic Sea Coast and Jūrmala Seaside Resort Tour according to my interests and physical fitness.
Rihards has a deep knowledge and insight into Latvian history, nature (flora and fauna, especially birds, insects, trees, mushrooms, etc.), and various modern statistics, and I learned a lot by the end of the day touring the forests, lakeshores, and coastline of beautiful Latvia with him.

I would highly recommend this tour to people of all ages and with a variety of interests.

Rihards and Discover Latvia are the best tour group in Latvia! My mom and I were interested in doing a tour of Sigulda, Turaida, and Cēsis and spent a lot of time looking at different options before landing on Discover Latvia which we chose both based on price and the fact that it did all three cities. Rihards was incredibly communicative in terms of booking on the front end which made us feel even better about our choice. The tour itself was absolutely excellent, giving us a great feel of each of the places we visited and a better understanding of Latvia as a whole. We got to visit all three castles as well as Gutman's cave, and there were additional stops along the way that enhanced our tour even more. My mom and I cannot say enough good things about Rihards and Discover Latvia and encourage anyone and everyone who visits Latvia to book a tour!

He was incredibly professional, courteous, kind, and regaled us with many interesting stories about the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian people, their relationships with each other, with the land, their histories, food, and culture. The stops we had along the way were interesting and he always offered to tailor stops to our needs. We did the 3km Dog sledging in March. It was absolutely wonderful. Arranging the tour was very easy. On the day we met with our guide Rihards who was very welcoming and gave us a history of dog sledging and the work the dogs have done. We had lots of time with the dogs before our sledging experience. We were introduced to the dogs and got to have lots of cuddles and pictures with them too.

We had a brief instruction on what to do on our ride. The ride itself was brilliant the dogs were amazing and it was lovely to go through the forest. We also got to swap half way so my partner and I each had a turn at driving. Only wish we could have gone for a longer ride but, it was definitely worth it. The pictures that taken of us along the way were lovely and we even got a video of us too.

After the sledging Rihards took us on a walk into the forest where we got to climb a fire lookout tower too. All through our experience our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions and also provided us with recommendation for other things to do whilst we were in Latvia. If you are ever in Latvia, I would highly recommend this experience!

"A bespoke tour for four, covering Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia"

Reviewed December, 2022
Marie from Perth, Australia

Discover Latvia Tours took our family of four (two adults, two teenagers) on a private, bespoke tour of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia over two days. The itinerary was tailored to suit our needs and interests, with our guide, Rihards, instrumental in the planning stages. He suggested interesting sights off the beaten track, and closer to the travel date communicated regularly with us regarding the finer details.

When spending two full days in a car ‘one-on-one’ with a guide, you want someone like Rihards driving you around. Intelligent, interesting and very pleasant to be around, it was easy to forget we were on a ‘tour’ with Rihards. It felt as though we were being driven around by a friend.

Over the two days, our tailored tour included:
Day one - hotel pick up in Riga, traveling to Salispils Concentration Camp (18km southeast of Riga). The memorial building (an impressive concrete structure) was built by the Soviets in the late 1960s. The informative displays depicting use of the camp during WWII have recently been installed and are very well done.
It was a moving experience, and was particularly beautiful set against the snowy background. Well worth a visit if time allows.

Second stop on day one was the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania. Rihards dropped us off at the main entrance, leaving us to explore the site at our own pace, then waited for us beside a church on the other side.
This place would be awe inspiring at any time of year, but the deep snow made it a truly magical and picturesque experience. (Being Aussies, snow is a huge novelty for us).

On the way back to our hotel we stopped for coffee and cake at a pretty riverside cafe. (Again, very pretty blanketed in white.)

Day two - hotel pick up in Riga to visit a secret Soviet bunker (Padomju Slepenais Bunkurs). It was a fascinating experience. Kept top secret until 2003, it’s as though the Soviets just upped and left the bunker overnight, leaving everything behind - a real time warp! Our bunker guide was a Mexican expat, living in Lithuania, and an expert on the Soviet era - quite a combo! He was passionate about the bunker’s history and shared his knowledge in an energetic and enjoyable way.

Rihards then drove us to the Sigilda bobsled track. This is where Rihards local knowledge and tour organisation really came in handy - the bobsleigh facility is not always open and Rihards kept track of this for us in the days leading up to our visit.
As far as the actual bobsled experience goes, all I can say is Wow Wow Wow!!!! It was a once in a lifetime experience - especially for a sandgroper from Perth, Western Australia!

From there, Rihards drove us to Tallin, Estonia, stopping at another gorgeous cafe along the way before delivering us safely to our next hotel.

Thank you so much Rihards for all your help in organising this very special experience for us, and for your friendly company along the way. We had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed every step and kilometer of the journey!

Your expert driving through all that snow for two days while chatting to us about every topic imaginable was very impressive!

My daughter and I recently did the husky tour.
Although there was not enough snow so we went with the dog cart instead of the sled we have had a lot of fun.
The dogs were sweet and enthusiastic. After the husky tour we went for a walk into the forest with Rihards.
Rihards talks with love about his Latvia and its inhabitants.
We can reccommend this tour to anyone even if there is a little or no snow.

With love from the Netherlands, Samantha and Mieke.

Myself and my daughter travelled to Riga for her 21st birthday celebrations which the husky sledding was a part of. Our guide Rihards picked us up in time from our hotel and told us all about the history of Latvia on the journey which was fascinating.

When we got to the forest, we met the huskies who were all so friendly and clearly very well cared for.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t any snow when we went but it didn’t matter as we used a cart instead which was just amazing! We were given lots of time to take photographs with the dogs and Rihards even took extras of us sledding and emailed them through to us. After the sled, Rihards took us on a walk through the forest and told us more about Latvian traditions and answered all of our questions about Latvia.

After the trip, Rihards drove us back to our hotel (we were offered to be dropped at the market if we preferred) and the whole experience was just magical.

Many thanks to Rihards for making our visit so special - I would definitely recommend this trip and will definitely be visiting Latvia again!

Myself and 4 friends recently visited Riga and as part of our visit we had booked the Husky sledding. Rihards collected us from the hotel and our drive out was lovely, he's a really interesting guy with lots of knowledge about Latvia.

Once we arrived we were allowed to pet and play with the dogs - mostly rescue ones - that in itself was a delight. The sledding was amazing fun and to top it off it was snowing as the gorgeous dogs brought us through the woods. Made us all feel like kids again and we're a long way off that!! Rihards sent us some great photos so we have lovely memories to look at but we will never forget this experience.!

Originally I had booked to experience the race dogs, however unfortunately the company that owned the race dogs had decided to sell them. We were kept informed of the situation by Discover Latvia who offered us the choice of cancelling or joining the Huskey ride. We chose to do the Huskey ride as we knew from past experience that it would be great fun.
We were travelling before Christmas and they don't always have much snow that early, however they have an alternative of using carts rather than sledges.
When we arrived in Latvia it had actually snowed! So plan A was on!
Rihards was a great guide from booking to the end of the tour, always keeping us informed. We were picked up on time and Rihards explained things about Latvia and Riga on route. We were also told about the dogs and that they are mostly rescue dogs. The Huskey ride is great fun and the dogs get so excited. The run is not too long so they are not overworked and they swap the dogs over for different guests.
After the rides we got to have time with the dogs and then a walk around the snow covered forest, which was beautiful. We were dropped back in Riga and on the way back Rihards recommended places to eat and drink in the city which was good. We also got sent some picture that Rihards had taken on the trip which was good. A great experience if you are in Riga! I would definitely use Discover Latvia for this trip and any other trips when we visit agin!

His English is excellent and it was great to hear personal stories about life since the Soviet occupation and current geopolitical issues. We were only two adults, but his car could certainly hold 6-8 and we are so glad we didn't attempt bus routes or trains on our own - (trains in the Baltics lag way behind the rest of Europe). We also saw much more of the countryside, stopping in pre-arranged spots or wherever we decided en route. Highly recommend!

We had pre-booked a private day tour for 4 of us to visit Sigulda. Our guide Rihards picked us up from our hotel reception at 10am and was full of interesting knowledge for the whole day. It was an hour’s drive through lovely countryside and we stopped at a couple of view points over the valley before visiting the bob sled track then Sigulda castle. We then went for lunch in a little serve yourself café where the food was excellent and quite cheap, especially for the quality. All the information was in Latvian but the staff spoke good English and told us what everything was. We then moved onto some more view points and the cable car. Once off the cable car we walked down to Gutman’s Cave and then went on to Turaida Castle. The weather was very warm apart from about 1 hour of torrential rain when we got soaked but then the heat dried us out again! We were dropped back off at our hotel at about 5.15pm after a lovely day out!

Our group of eight had a tremendously enjoyable early June tour with Rihards (Richard), meeting us all promptly at the hotel for a 0900 start and reaching Cesis around 90 minutes later. Booked at quite short notice, it was certainly appreciated that Rihards was able to respond quickly to any questions and he made an interesting and helpful guide. We found the pricing to be highly competitive for a ten-hour tour given that all entrance fees were included. Highlight wise, the medieval castle at Cesis is a definite must-see for anybody visiting Latvia, particularly with a superb new multimedia exhibition charting its historical timeline in HG Wells ‘Time Machine’ style. They also have a number of in-costume inhabitants that interact with visitors to make it a great visit (the armour hut guy was a real star). Rihards also took us for a photo opportunity at the downhill ski slope after lunch and the castle at Sigulda, we finished with Gutmans cave and the interesting defensive keep at Turaida.

Rihards was a super kind person, and also very patient, even with me because my English language skills are not so good, he tries his best to make you understand such tragic history behind the Iron Curtain, like the deportation station. Also we did a stop in order to eat some delicious food, meeting places visited by the locals such food markets, you can breath 100% history through the whole tour which clearly exceeded my expectations. The tour is really a immersive experience.

He also kindly recommend me some pubs, and other restaurants to go while being in Riga, or helping me out to reach the Medicine Museum at Riga which was awesome by the way.

But the real thrill started when we arrived at the place and met the dogs. The dogs were very keen to take us sledding and this fact took away our anxiety about any possible mistreatment of the dogs. As a matter of fact, all the dogs are rescued dogs and this venture provides the means for them to survive. It was amazing. At first we thought the price was a bit expensive but he came to pick us up by car in front of the apartment, and he returns us of front, with confonrtable car.

At the begining, he shows us all dogs and presents them, after we have around 15min to play with them + 10min where he explains us the instructions to drive.

After the activitie starts, they are at first with 4x4 and we follow them ( we are very free with dogsled because they are far in front of us ). At the middle of the activitie, we had a break of 5min to take pictures. Then we came back to starting area. We had again 20 min to exchange and talk with the team and enjoy with the dogs, after they invited us to take a tea in small house, we talked about our feeling about dogsled and explain us many things about Riga and Latvia.

During the tour, he took many pictures of us and send us on our e-mail (free)
Moreover, Rihards is very friendly and talk very well english.

It was a really amazing experience, don't hesitate to do it, you will never forget. Cédric & Camille

To be honest I am really scared of dogs - still as a personal challenge I convinced myself to do the husky ride. I checked the prices with other german and letvian husky ride offers and discovery L. was the most suitable one. I asked Rihards a lot of question in the beginning and he answered them all. Besides he was even friendly when I paid reall late. On the day he picked us up at the hotel and told us a few things about Riga. The husky ride itself was amaizing. You really have to do it. Its a life time experience you wont forget. As I mentioned, I am scared of dogs but at the end I was "cuddling" with them. Most of the dogs were rescued from their bad environment - so its even a great project. The best part is that the owner care a lot. There are enough dogs that no dog has to ride two times in a row. Once they rode us, they had a long break while other dogs were riding. Rihards then took us for a walk and it was like hanging around with a good friend. When he heard that we wanted to have lunch after the ride he even droped us at the restaurant. So all in all: the husky ride itself is an adventure but if you are lucky and Rihards is with you - you will definetely have a great day trip. Thanks a lot Rihards and your team!

We now know lots more about both Latvia & Estonia than we did before.

We followed the coast and stopped at a couple of beaches - one sandy and one rocky. We wandered along the boardwalk through a bog. We stopped at the border crossing between Latvia and Estonia for a photo. And stopped in Pärnu for a wander around the Old Town.

It was a great way to transfer between the 2 cities - much better than just sitting on a big coach without the commentary!!

We’re keen to return to Latvia to discover areas beyond Riga, and we would certainly use Discover Latvia Tours again.

Once we arrived, we were allowed to spend some time with the huskies, which was brilliant, before the 3km sled. Both my girlfriend and I had a chance to control the sled while the other sat on it, which was great. Afterwards, we got more time with the dogs, including giving them treats and Janis told us a bit about what they do with the dogs in terms of training. We then went for a short walk to an observation tower which let us see Riga, over 50km away, before heading back to the car and returning to the hotel.

When we left, we managed to leave a hat in the car, and Rihards was kind enough to arrange for Janis to return it to us at the hotel the following morning, which was above and beyond what we expected. Janis even waited for us in reception and then offered to point out a good tourist attraction for us.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on the tour. Janis and Rihards were great and so helpful, and the dogs and sledding was brilliant. Definitely worth a visit!

Where to begin...we began to communicate with Rihards, who is part owner of this company, over a year ago. Our group of 10 had relatives who'd left Latvia after WWII and we wanted to see the rather remote area where they had lived. They created a custom tour for us that was phenomenal, even arranging for someone to meet and let us into the church that the family had attended. Rihards had to arrange for a minibus and driver since we were a larger group than he usually escorts. Interesting places were visited on the way to and from the family farm too. In addition to this special tour, Rihards also escorted us on the Jurmala Seaside tour, where we visited several different coastal areas, and were able to enjoy some of the wonderful natural areas of Latvia. Rihards was extremely knowledgeable and a good speaker of English. He shared interesting facts and stories throughout our two full days together, and we enjoyed his company and his perspective tremendously. Our first day in Riga, our group also took the Old Town and Art Nouveau tour through this company with Marija as our guide. She was also very good, and had great knowledge of the area. She also knew where to duck in when a brief downpour hit. :-) You *could* just walk around Riga and look at buildings and monuments but that would be such a waste - good guides like Rihards and Marija are able to share stories and interesting information to give so much more context to what you see. My highest recommendation goes to this company, and to Rihards, who really went above and beyond to give our group an amazing experience!

The two day-trips we took with Rihards (“Hiking in Sigulda” and “Baltic Sea Coast & Jūrmala”) were the highlight of the three weeks we spent in the Baltics. Both trips were so much fun and were great value (a lot is packed into the Baltic Sea Coast trip – Rihards planned many stops to show us different aspects of life in the area).

Both days were filled with conversation and laughter; Rihards is very laid back and a great person to spend the day with. We felt we got a much better insight into the culture, people and geography of Latvia; Rihards even arranged for beautiful weather just for us!

We highly recommend Discover Latvia as an easy way to see more of Latvia. Both of the tours we took were fantastic but I am sure any Discover Latvia tour you are interested in will be equally spectacular.

Rihards is an excellent tour guide and from the moment he picked us up from the hotel Metropole to dropping us off he provided a full commentary on Latvian history, Riga, land marks, random facts and where were we're going and what we would see.

We had a complete private tour with just me and my wife taking up the Sigulda tour as the snow was melting and unable to undertake the husky rides.

The scenery was amazing, and Rihards kept us fully informed of what was around us. Visiting the ski slopes and seeing people skiing and snowboarding was great. The bobsleigh track was an interesting facility and the castles at Sigulda and Toraida were lovely to see in the snow. Pity the cable car was not running due to maintenance, but this was reflected in the price we paid and not the fault of Rihards.

We stopped for lunch at a small cafe and it was an excellent value buffet, and tasty too.

Fully recommend Discover Latvia tours, fantastic value for money and. Great day out.

We did a tour to Sigulda with Rihards today and can honestly say it was excellent. In both the emails we exchanged prior to booking and then on the tour itself he was honest, friendly and very knowledgeable. You often see "private" tours advertised but this one really was - with just the 4 of us (we all travelled together) and him in the car. At one point we asked if we could book in a bobsled ride at the last minute. He was happy to alter the plan for the day and sorted the ride out for us over the phone in a couple of minutes. (I'd highly recommend a bobsled ride to anyone visiting Sigulda - we thought it was well worth the 50 Euro fee per person). On the tour Rihards made sure we saw the best of everything Sigulda has to offer and when we found that the cable car was closed he recommended a nature walk instead which we really enjoyed. We've had a great day and would definitely book another tour with Discover Latvia.

Rihards was fantastic and very knowledgeable. He went out of his way for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary by meeting us 15 minutes early so that we could decorate the bus, and suggesting we toast with champagne at the Gutmanis Cave after hearing about a love story that took place there. Also my grandparents aren't the best walkers as their little legs get sore after a while but Rihards was very patient and allowed us to go at our own pace. The itinerary was great, the tour round the Soviet bunker was very exciting (for a Cold War historian), and then we went to the battlefield at More. The museum there was equally interesting, run by an older gentleman who told us a lot of interesting things about WW2 in Latvia, with Rihards translating for us. We also got to sit in a T-34 tank which was very cool before walking round some of the trenches and dugouts. The track was even a few kilometers longer (lucky for us). The tour guide Rihards picked us up at our hotel in Riga and brought us to the forrest. I cannot decribe how useful and friendly he has been during the whole tour. He told us a lot about Latvia and everything was really interesting. When we arrived, the dogs were already waiting for us. No words can decribe our tour through the forrest. It was awesome! Rihards took a lot of pictures and put it on dropbox afterwards. After the tour he brought us to the farm to see the dogs. We were sitting in a tipi, drinking mulled wine and eating Latvian specialities. We had no pressure of time at all. After the day was over, Rihards brought us to our old hotel (we changed it) to pick up our stuff and dropped us of at our new hotel. We payed the major part after the day was over. Booked the tour through Rihards who kept us up to date with the tour, especially as the mild weather threatened it going ahead. They couldn't do their normal 5km circuit due to the weather, so offered a slightly longer 8km circuit in the woods where there was more snow. Jañis picked us up from the airport and drove us to the woods which took about an hour, he pointed out the sights on the way. Arrived and briefed and then we were on our way with the dogs. Didn't expect to do the circuit on our own but this added to the thrill. We then visited the dogs kennels and gained an insite to their environment, followed by pastries and mulled wine. On the way back to Riga, Janis suggested stopping off at the Dakota restaurant and bar for local food and drinks with a difference - it is all kitted out with plane parts, the seats are Russian aircraft seats and they even had a real Antonov 24 cockpit you could sit in! Janis helped us with places to eat and drink back in Riga and pointed out some of the great beers on offer. He made the whole experience very personal and we would highly recommend their tours. It was a very funny experience watching my husband slide on his butt holding on to the rope behind the four detached dogs who wanted to keep running! She answered all our questions and pointed out things that we may never had noticed. Her english is great and very easy to understand, definitely worth arranging.

For the cycle tour we went with local transport with Rihards to Sigulda which was interesting in itself! On arriving in Sigulda there were bikes and helmets waiting for us, we had already given Rihards our heights so the bikes didn't need much adjusting. The tour was fantastic, through woods, along the river bank into the National Park then up a huge hill which was a wonderful lung bursting challenge. Rihards stops often and points out interesting areas and gives you as much information as you want. His knowledge is immense but never boring, many fun facts and stories are added in along the way. The weather changed for the worse halfway through our tour, it was incredible but rather than risk injury Rihard was able to change the route to ensure we were kept safe. Obviously use to rapid weather changes he had also brought some ponchos just in case which were more than welcomed. The chair lift back up to Sigulda was excellent and saved having to cycle up a crazy hill. The view was amazing from up top especially as we could see the 2nd storm coming in. Both tours were fantastic and we would definitely use them again!

I paid a deposit via PayPal at the time of booking and the rest on the day of the transfer. He came right on time to our hotel in Vilnius and for the rest of the day, we were very comfortable in his car and visited all 3 places right on schedule.

We had a great day and could not have asked for better service. I would highly recommend Rihards and his services.

Taken by Discover Latvia owner (Rihards, only about 26 yrs old but extremely professional) from our hotel in Riga to Sigulda, a resort village about 40 minutes from downtown. Spent the day visiting National Park, bobsledding, and driving through the countryside. Along the way, Rihards photographed our experience, exposed us to the beauty of his country, and discussed Latvian culture and history with me to my heart's desire. His knowledge of and passion for his home country was inspiring (and his Riga recommendations were spot on). A great, locally owned business to support! On the 14th September 2014, my wife, our 20 month old baby and I did a day trip from Riga with Rihards from Discover Latvia Tours. We traveled to Kandava, Kuldiga and then back along the Baltic coast and on to Riga.

What a great day we had! Rihards is passionate about his country and his job, and this definitely reflects in the quality of service that one receives as one of Discover Latvia's guests. Nothing was too much for Rihard - he provided us with a tailor-made day trip, is very informative about the history and socio-cultural context of Latvia, he provided us with drinks and Latvian sweets, he provided a baby chair for our baby, and in effect went out of his way to make the day special and memorable for us. It felt as if we were with a friend as opposed to a normal tour guide.

Based on our experience, if you are visiting Latvia, we would highly recommend that you do at least one day trip (or more if possible) with Rihards and his team at Discover Latvia!

Thank you Rihards for a most memorable day in beautiful Latvia! (Also for the lovely photos that you sent us of our day trip).

It was a sentimental trip to Latvia; visiting the homeland for the first time after both my parents had passed away. Like many other displaced persons after WW2, my parents eventually found themselves on a ship bound for the very distant shores of Australia. From the very early email correspondence, Rihards took a personal interest in my desire to walk in the footsteps of my parents so long ago. Arriving in Latvia, Rihards was just superb; he had done his homework. We had a lovely time visiting Mum's region, Vecumneiki, and with Rihards' help, found Mum's old church. Even more amazing, again with Rihards' perseverance, we found Dad's childhood home In Liksnas, with the keys of the front door hanging on the side of an old shed. The place was dilapidated, no one had lived there for years, but how incredible to get inside this home. Along the way, Rihards was my private tour guide in regional Latvia; we went to so many places, so dear to my heart, and he was a first class guide in every respect. I did a private walking tour of old Riga with Maja and she also lead me through, apart from other places, Mum's old school at Metzones and Rundale castle; knew the history and told lovely stories. Another really lovely touch was that I had noted to Rihards, in my emails, that I longed for some piragi. Richards surprised me with a box-full from the most renown bakery in Latvia! Too many wonderful experiences to write about in full. Yet, overall, Discover Latvia made my visit to my homeland sensational. Thank you so much Richards and Maja!

We all agreed that it was great that Discover Latvia's tours are 'private' so we had plenty of opportunities to ask questions, converse with our guide, and generally were able to influence our trip more since there wasn't a large group of people to take into consideration.

We do, however, believe that the description of Sigulda as "the Switzerland of Latvia" was a little misinformative as it really wasn't very mountainous - but we has a great trip nonetheless, so thanks to Rihards and Discover Latvia for a fantastic day in Sigulda.

My boyfriend and I went on the Discover Latvia 'Husky Dog Sledding' day tour recently in early February. It was absolutely incredible, and I can't sing the praises of Discover Latvia (DL) as a tour company highly enough!

From googling to find a tour to do in Riga during our three day mini winter holiday, the DL website was easy to navigate and appealing. After initially not hearing back using the generic 'contact us' email on the website, I re-emailed and recieved a response immediately (even in the weekend!). Perhaps Rihard's initial reply bounced to my junk folder. Notwithstanding emailing Rihard to organise a tour at very short notice, only a few days before we arrived in Riga, he was able to arrange our sledding tour for the day we wanted. It was great talking to a guide with such a great command of English (the language barrier was something we otherwise struggled with a bit while in Latvia!) and he was very polite and enthusiastic over emails!

From the pick up as promised from our apartment/hotel, our guide Rihard drove us out to the sledding. We saw a fantastic amount of the countryside, including a mini detour through a village to 'see the real Latvia'.

The husky sledding itself was INSANELY amazing. The dogs are very friendly (and cuddly!) and you are instructed how to manouever the sled. Then you stand in the mushing position (one of us sat in the 'baggage' part, then switched over drivers halfway) to literally lead the dogs on a track through forestry and wide open fields!! This was an incredible experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Latvia!! There are plenty of chances to take photographs (I even took a video while in the baggage position on the sled, going through the forest), and the men helping you to do the sledding are happy to be photographers to ensure your visit is truly well documented in photos!

The snacks afterwards were truly a mini feast - in a tepee with a small fire we drank hot tea to warm our hands back up, and had sausages, sweet bread and crackers. This was an amazing experience and one we will always remember.

I will definitely book one of the other tours the next time I visit Riga.

I've had a fantastic experience with Discover Latvia! I live in Canada and visited Latvia in June. I was recommended to go with this tour company by some friends and I'm so happy that I did! Rihards and Sergejs did a fantastic job of organizing everything, and were fun company to travel with. It was a private tour and such a different experience compared to large group tours. It allows you to feel more connected to places you visit rather than just seeing them from a tour bus.

There's so much great history and scenery in this country, and Discover Latvia really lets you experience it. While you're there I also suggest checking out some of the Latvian coast, because it's absolutely gorgeous! Oh and watch for storks and their giant nests while driving outside of the city, they're pretty awesome! Thanks again to Sergejs and Rihards!

I recommend tour to Sigulda in fall. The season makes the environment one of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. We walked in the Gauja National Forest, in the caves of Sigulda, visited castles and met some of the history of Latvia. In addition, Rihards and Sergejs are friendly, pleasant and very funny. I really loved the tour.

We are three travelers, it was our first trip to Riga and in general we spent there 4 days. After taking some tours in the old town and art noveau in the city we wanted to see something more about Riga real life and maybe even leave the city and see the rest of the Latvia. In the Riga city tourism office we found "Discover Latvia" booklets and we instantly found what we were looking for. We went to "Discover Latvia" office near by the city hall and met friendly Rihards who helped us to understand what do we really want to see and to do, so we booked a couple of tours.

That evening we went on a lovely boating tour in Riga canal with kayaks. We choose not to use guide because we already had enough of information in our heads, so we just wanted to relax. It was great, the sounds and views are different, we crossed the river which divides Riga into two parts and great panorama of the city reveals.

It was great that we could go on the next tour out of Riga already in the morning of the next day. Our goal was to reach Roja, city next to the Baltic sea. On the way we visited: - Jurmala, wonderful seaside resort near the Riga - Bird watching tower in the lake - Many ancient fishing villages - Engure lake and the Latvian blue cows and the wild horses. They are living there almost completely free, it's not a zoo. - We stoped at a lovely rural farm 30 meters from the sea, left all our stuff there and took a relaxing bike ride to the city Roja, which was located just 20 minutes away from the farm. - After coming back to the farm we enjoyed rocky seaside for a while with no rush and afterwards went back to Riga.

This tour really showed the real Latvian way of life. The fishing villages where authentic with all the ancient boats and unique aura, a little has changed here and the guys really know were and what to see. The Engure lake was epic. Rihards and Sergejs did a great job as a guides, tour was very personal and we learned a lot about the local way of life. Guys even had some snacks, tea and we all together had a nice outdoor picnic at the Engure lake.

Amazing impressions, thank you very much for this!!!

Had one of the best days of my life with Discover Latvia Tours. Rihards & Serjegs picked me up from my hotel and took me sightseeing, hiking in the Gauja National Forest & to the caves of Sigulda, to the Tarzan Adventure Park, rolling down a hillside in a "Zorb" ball, a run on a summer bobsled, and topped my day off with bungee-jumping. They run a first-class operation, and are very knowledgeable on Latvian history & culture. They have superb command of English, and answered all my questions throughout the tour. I would recommend anyone visiting Latvia to contact them for service above & beyond to call of duty.

"Hiking in Gauja-National Park"

I came to Latvia for studies. And just to get out of the Student Hostel and daily routines, I opened my Laptop, googled for Outdoor activities in Latvia and booked a very pleasant and unexpectedly personal experience.

For everyone who is into hiking or other activities and who is open for a little adventure outside the city, I highly recommend "Discover Latvia". It is a very young, innovative and very open minded provider for plenty of activities around nature.

I took part in "Hiking in Gauja - National Park" just to get around this beautiful country and to see the nature outside of Riga. As I am going to stay in Latvia for a couple of years, I had plenty of questions about culture, habits, do's and don'ts and after 20 km of hiking through beautiful landscapes, the tour guide, who is also the founder of "DL", gave me answers to many of my questions.

Just check out their website
You really won't regret it.
